I hope you’re keeping so well. If not, I hope you have or find something to lighten the load until you return to peace.
How do you navigate winter? The darkest day of the year is Saturday 21 December, a time which represents incoming lighter days and reflection for who and how we will be in the coming season. I consider it a time to attune and appreciate the darkness that winter brings before running towards springtime bloom. To answer the question in the title of today’s mini post, when I am slow, I am able to access myself. I feel able to discern what is mine and what I hastily picked up and let settle in me. I cherish being slow because I can differentiate the distinct moments when I’m about to change pace. I’m also welcoming of the slowing down of my life because I have seen how many generations and communities have forfeited it/been robbed of it, and I want to interrupt it. It’s my resistance to not take rush as my default. What does slowing down mean to you?
I will be guiding a workshop this Friday 20 Decfor writers and curious minds of all levels. You’re absolutely invited if you’d like to join us in this pre-winter solstice write and chat session. It is a virtual workshop and open to all.
As an offering from The Easeful Place, this workshop will be rooted in listening and writing for self and others while gaining clarity on how you’ll approach the remainder of winter at your own pace, using your own depth of noticing. I can’t wait to sit with you.
Before though, here are some pre-workshop prompts to prepare you for the session.
How have you emotionally rested/reset lately? What would that look like?
How have you creatively rested/reset lately? How would/do you enter that state?
What type of rest do you wish to see in your home life, relationships, city?
Additional prompt: Write a memory of when rest came to you when you needed it OR when you created it for you or someone else.
An invitation to carry these prompts with you until the winter solstice, a time where we find ourselves in enough dark hours to hopefully welcome slower thoughts. There will be more writing prompts, activities, and space to share with the community in the workshop.
If you have any questions about the session feel free to drop me a line here. You can contact me personally or learn more about my practice via my website.
What an absolutely beautiful offering and reminder to slow down. I’ve recently been feeling so overwhelmed with life and I really needed this to bring my mind back into my body. I so wish I could join but I’ll be at work :( If you ever host any of these during a weekend, I will absolutely be there! sending you so much love always ♥️
thanks for the beautiful affirmation and I’m so sorry about the overwhelm. I hope you experience more slowness and time to process in these coming days. you deserve it my love. I will definitely keep your point in mind, would be so beautiful to have you in the space! sending love all the way back x
Wish I could come to this!! Thanks for these generative prompts ~ hope things align for me to join your next workshop. Slowing down for me is about the feeling of space. Within and without a feeling of length permeates my being. When I’m slow I can create a vibe rather than be assimilated. Slowing down means the details can come out to play and the newness of now can be seen. Slowness is the birthplace of peace.
Yanique! Every word here speaks to me. As always, thank you for showing up and offering something beautiful. Yes, hope to share space with you in the next one!
it’s on my calendar! had a perfect opening for it and this morning I’d been thinking I wanted to do something for the solstice, so this is right on time Amara!
