This is absolutely beautiful!! I love your writing style and I can’t wait to check out more of your posts!

I recently visited several towns in Oaxaca. I went to Collantes, Chicahua and Cuaji! I loved exploring some of the Afro Mexican communities there!

Collantes has such a special place in my heart. It felt like meeting distant family for the first time. We were there during Día de Los Muertos. We were able to talk with several folks in the community and observe La Danza de Los Diablos.

I'm curious if I would meet new friends while travelling through EU-countries. Usually I travel to cities wherein people I know reside. They complement the travel experience of the city I'm visiting. But when you mentioned art-galeries, new ideas sprung into mind on how I could wander around a town for more than 10 days. Your story inspires me to start fresh and create new fantasies about me engaging unknown cities. Thank you very much for sharing :-)

This means so much, I'm grateful that I could offer that perspective and encouragement. I adore wandering around a city solo and discovering it on my own terms. Solo travel has also allowed me to attract new friends - residents or wanderers - who offer new ways to enjoy a place. I recommend it and it's also sweet to eventually return with that local knowledge that deepens the trip even more.

As someone also living in a country foreign to me, this resonated so much! It's taken me a long time to learn to appreciate the value of connections that are only for the time being. I also loved: "In these moments, I was inviting myself to make vivid the things that felt very important and very far away." Such beautiful words – thank you for sharing them!

Thank you so much for sharing Kristen! I'm so glad it resonated with you on your journey. I think every long-term traveller gets to a point of welcoming the 'short-termness' of some moments and friendships. It's such an interesting journey, enjoy it!!
