Hi and happy Friday!
My hiatus is over and I’m happy to have made it back in time for a Friday unwind. I’m writing this letter to you from Belize, where the air is thick with heat as though summer is gulping back the days, but autumn is definitely here. Maybe I’ve carried it back with me from more temperament climates. It’s also still rainy season, so the sun and rain take turns between themselves. Outside of that though, the energy is renewal.
Truthfully I’m happy to be back in your inbox, writing about the moments between travel and life that shape and define where I land next. I wrote you something and I hope to release it from my world and into yours very soon. Look out for that! I am also excited to share some other places that my writing will live here on Substack on other incredible newsletters. I will show and tell you what I can soon also.
And how are you?
My hiatus was spent travelling to be with family, resting, reemerging in many ways, and returning to my TBR list. Somewhere on this list sat a book that I have always been meaning to read in full but have taken for granted since it sits on our family bookshelf and always seems near.
The end of summer pulled me back to All About Love by bell hooks. This book has been the world that hosted me while I retreated slightly during these transitional days. There were many messages and many truths that resonated with me as I move deeper into my late twenties, journeying towards a loving life.
Returning to bell hooks’ literary teachings on love during a time of preparing to guide others in a workshop about being enough was another perfect parallel.
This Sunday 29th September, I’ll be holding space in a workshop about ‘Enoughness’ for all who want to define what it means to be enough and how to keep remembering it. The workshop is for everyone, at all stages of their writing or self-discovery journey.
We’ll be using the writings of four incredible Black women writers to guide us through different elements of enoughness. bell hooks will absolutely be one of those writers.
What to expect::
✺ 2 hours of encouragement and prompts for self-remembering
✺ Write & release with a light-minded & hearted community
✺ Attendees receive further resources on each of the writers studied + a list of self-study writing prompts
✺ A Sunday reset in community
✺ Learn from Black women’s wisdoms
✺ Reconnect with yourself and new friends
This is a virtual workshop session and resources will be sent out the same day after our gathering.
Pre-workshop prep::
Questions for self-inquiry.
How do you introduce yourself? (& why? what guides and facilitates this intro?)
What is one thing you’re proud of but haven’t celebrated yet?
What has it meant to be ‘enough’ generationally?
How do you find balance in being/doing enough in your creative practice?
Come join us and write in community. We write, share, listen, and leave with a wealth of wonder and deeper self-knowing. There are still some spaces left if this sounds like your type of gathering:
Otherwise, over at The Easeful Place, we’ve been talking about transition and newness. With the autumn equinox’s energy, a new season is here and it asks balance of us. Libra season has arrived, we’re in the midst of eclipse season, and a new moon is only a few days away - not to mention the personal changes present within us. Some may feel, as I do, that it is time to make space for new cycles.
You can get full access to the curated list of 28 journal prompts for entering a new season. I hope it supports you!
Until the next letter.
Love,
Amara Amaryah
